Freeland Veterans USS Coral Sea The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5010 and the American Legion Post 473 are community organizations in Freeland, Pennsylvania dedicated to honoring, celebrating and supporting veteran affairs. The VFW and Legion cooperate on various community activities related to veteran affairs, parades, memorial services, etc. Many local veterans are registered members of both posts.

Freeland honors two veterans by naming a street, Evancho Circle, in a community housing development and Karpowich Walking Path in the Public Park with their names. Freeland community veterans that have given their lives in service are venerated within both the VFW and Legion organizations.

We honor comrades in arms that gave their all.

Purple Heart Monument

Freeland Veterans Purple Heart Medal On July 13, 2014, Freeland veterans added the Purple Heart monument shown at right to the community Veterans Memorial in the Public Park. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the armed forces of the U.S. who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action.
